Organisers moves Sotigul Awards venue to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso

In solidarity with the victims of COVID-19 pandemic, the Academy of Sotigul has moved the venue of the annual event scheduled to hold in Paris, France to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

Academy of Sotigul is governed by the Association for the Promotion of African Cinema and the Diaspora (APROCAD), in partnership with Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO). Its purpose is to contribute to the recognition and enhancement of the profession of actors – actors of African Cinema and the Diaspora.

The academy in a statement informed actors-comedians of Africa Cinema and the Diaspora, and its partners that the 5th edition of the awards initially slated for December 3rd to 5th, 2020 in Paris, France will be relocated to the African country with the same date under the theme: “Culture of peace: what contribution from women in cinema and the audio-visual sector?”

According to academy, the decision was taken at the end of an extraordinary session of the academy’s office held on May 30, 2020 in Ouagadougou.

The statement said: “It aims to mark the solidarity of the Academy to the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic decreed by the World Health Organisation (WHO). In fact, more than 8 million people have been infected with coronavirus disease worldwide. More than 435, 856 of them unfortunately died. And it is an opportunity for the Academy of Sotigul to wish a speedy recovery to those affected by the disease and to express its most sad condolences to the bereaved families”

It said: “The Academy of Sotigul wants, through this relocation to offer actors – actors of African Cinema and the Diaspora their unique framework of expression. And this, despite the situation that she knows is difficult.”
